Denis Island
Denis Island
Fifty-three miles (85 km) north of Victoria lies Denis island with a surface area of 131 hectares. Once a thriving coconut plantation, Denis island, which is only 30 minutes flight from Mahe island, boasts a newly refurbished lodge with 25 distinctive and well-appointed cottages.

It is an ideal base for deep-sea fishing expeditions as it lies on the edge of the Seychelles islands bank, where Marlin and record breaking Tuna are to be found. There is a lighthouse at the northern edge of this island which also has beautiful beaches and offers excellent possibilities for snorkelling, diving and fishing.

The resort is made up of 25 individual cottages, with courtyard, outside shower and private sundeck, fully air-conditioned executive, deluxe and elegant cottages. The small library and snooker table offers a relaxing atmosphere for evening entertainment.

The resort also offers facilities for tennis, windsurfing, canoeing and of course sunbathing on white sand beaches.

The island's rich vegetation with its fertile soil and lush greenery is home to roaming tortoises and nesting sea birds. It also boasts excellent nature walks for the more adventurous.

The island boats offer daily game excursions and world record catches have been recorded for dog tooth, bonito and tuna. Marlin, sailfish, barracuda, wahoo, dorado and job also make the game fishing an extraordinary experience.

Denis island allows a minimum stay of 3 nights, however the average bookings are for one week, with an exceptional level of repeat visitors.

The island offers visitors total tropical privacy and relaxation combined with the comforts of home.

Diving, Fishing & Watersports

The resort enjoys the facility of a small, professional, on-site dive centre with PADI accreditation offering courses for novice and advanced divers alike and where both diving and snorkeling equipment is available. The protected underwater World around Taj Denis ranks as one of the finest areas for diving in Seychelles and features a number of dive sites allowing sightings of turtles, sharks, sting rays, sailfish, tuna and dolphins with whale sharks and manta rays often sighted from September to November.

Experience the thrill of a fishing charter on either our Mako 44' Striker or 27' Commodore that operate on request and on a daily basis with experienced crews using state-of-the-art equipment. The local art of bottom-fishing or 'palangrotte' is a firm favourite with bone-fishing off the island's flats also increasing in popularity.

Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing in the sparkling waters surrounding the island are also possible while those with a preference for terrestrial activities will enjoy visits to the farm, hiking the island's meandering pathways and also our guided nature walks that explore the island's rich flora and fauna.

Denis Island is north of Mahe but don't plan on visiting this island unless you are a guest of the Denis Island Lodge, which owns the entire island. Yes, this is a private island amongst the Seychelles chain of islands, and it doesn't get more exlusive than this. It was discovered in the late 1700s by French man by the name of Denis de Trobriand. If you are lucky enough to stay at the Denis Island lodge, take advantage of their scuba diving packages. If scuba isn't your bag, you can book a deep-sea fishing charter with a local captain for some of the best fishing ever. If you are a bird-watcher and you have tons of dough, Denis Island is the place for you. It's a birder's delight, just as good as Bird Island here in the Seychelles islands, but fewer people, since it's a private island.
